When it helps

Practical uses

Convert PNG screenshots to smaller WebP files, create broadly compatible JPEGs from transparent artwork, or make a PNG copy for lossless editing.

Privacy in this tool

Format detection and conversion use browser capabilities only. No file bytes are submitted to a server.

Formats and boundaries

What to expect

Supported formats

JPEG, PNG, WebP, plus AVIF when the current browser can encode it.

Important limitations

Browser encoders can produce different file sizes. Converting a lossy image to PNG does not restore detail. Animation is not preserved.

Tool-specific answers

Image Format Converter questions

Why is AVIF not listed?

Your browser must be able to encode AVIF through its canvas implementation. PixelPrivate hides options that fail its local capability test.

What happens to transparency in JPEG?

JPEG has no alpha channel. PixelPrivate warns you and fills transparent areas with your chosen background colour.

Can I convert multiple files?

The MVP processes one file at a time. The processing model is ready for a future local batch workflow.
