When it helps

Practical uses

Use compression before publishing a web page, attaching an image to email, or sharing over a slower connection. Limiting very large dimensions often saves more space than lowering quality alone.

Privacy in this tool

Decoding, resizing, and encoding happen in this tab. The selected file is never sent to PixelPrivate.

Formats and boundaries

What to expect

Supported formats

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and browser-supported output formats.

Important limitations

PNG is lossless and may not become smaller after re-encoding. AVIF export is shown only when your browser can create it. Animated images are exported as a single still frame.

Tool-specific answers

Image Compressor questions

What quality should I choose?

The recommended 82% setting is a good photographic starting point. Logos and screenshots may look better as PNG or high-quality WebP.

Why did my PNG get larger?

Browsers use general-purpose PNG encoders. A PNG that was already optimized may not shrink; WebP can be a better option if transparency is needed.

Will PixelPrivate upscale my image?

No. The compressor never enlarges an image unless you explicitly enable upscaling.
